KORONADAL CITY, 11 December 2020 – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) of CARAGA Region and the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) oriented the Regional Development Council (RDC) XII on the Smarter Philippines through Data Analytics Research and Development, Training, and Adaptation (SPARTA) Project.

In the said activity held via videoconferencing on December 11, 2020, DOST CARAGA’s Engr. Noel M. Ajoc said the project aims to train and graduate 30,000 learners all over the Philippines in data science, analytics, and related fields through online learning.

The scholarship is open to Filipino professionals, either Information Technology (IT) and non-IT practitioners, college students, and even senior high school students.

Ajoc said that other than the scholarships, the initiative hopes to build a community of data science and analytics practitioners through activities such as hackathons, conferences, and online data challenges through the project’s Smart Governance Portal.

The orientation ignited the interest of the 46 RDC XII members and representatives present as evidently made in the number of questions asked during the open forum.

Before the end of the activity, RDC XII Chairperson Ronnel C. Rivera expressed his appreciation of the project. He said the project is timely as it will help Region XII in its efforts to improve the use of technology in governance. He added the initiative would aid General Santos City in particular, which was named one of the 25 Digital Cities, in becoming the center of focus for new economic development in the next three years through Information Technology and Business Process Management.
