City of Koronadal, South Cotabato – Mr. Jin Yuan, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy of China in the Philippines together with Mr. Cai Gerui, General Manager of China State Construction Engineering Corp. (CSCEC), turned over the newly constructed SOCCSKSARGEN Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Barangay Kawas, Alabel, Sarangani to DOH Secretary Francisco T. Duque, III on December 17, 2018.
The facility is a China aid to the Philippines amounting to PhP 302.161 Million in support of the War on Drugs of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
It has a total floor area of 6,750.36 square meters comprised of six buildings, and has a 150-bed facility erected uphill and overlooking the Sarangani Bay.
The facility is a center of hope and new life, Mr. Yuan said, and emphasized that economic cooperation with China is a win-win choice.
Likewise, Mr. Li Lin, Consul General of China based in Davao City, expressed his admiration for the President’s relentless war on drugs.
Sec. Duque also commended CSCEC for completing the facility ahead of schedule by 10 months with the cooperation and assistance of Chinese and Filipino professionals, including the DOH XII that provided the overall supervision .
China and the Philippines signed the Memorandum of Understanding for the project on March 17, 2017 and President Duterte led the ceremonial launching on November 17, 2017.
The ground breaking was done on January 12, 2018 and the facility was completed on November 30, 2018.
Also present during the ceremony were DILG Undersecretary Epimaco Densing, DOH Asec. Abdullah Dumama, DOH XII Regional Director Aristides Tan, Sarangani Governor Steve Solon, other Chinese officials, heads of regional line agencies, local chief executives and provincial/municipal health officials in SOCCSKSARGEN Region.
The activity was concluded with the unveiling of the marker and ribbon cutting led by Sec. Duque and Mr. Lin. . (Evie Arabis Cabulanan, NEDA XII-DRD)
