City of Koronadal, South Cotabato – A total of 46 Nutritionist Dietitians (NDs) deployed by the Department of Health (DOH) XII to various cities and municipalities in Region XII were trained on Nutrition Planning Management (NPM) in two batches on September 10-14, 2018 and October 8-12, 2018, respectively at SunCity Suites, General Santos City.
Ms. Arceli M. Latonio, Regional Nutrition Coordinator of National Nutrition Council XII, said that Region XII is one of the focused areas of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) due to high prevalence of stunting at 40% based on the 2015 National Nutrition Survey. Given this challenge, DOH XII Regional Director Aristides C. Tan committed to deploy NDs in all provinces, cities and municipalities in SOCCSKSARGEN Region.
The training on NPM aims to improve the NDs’ skill on nutrition planning as they partner with the local Nutrition Action Officers in reducing malnutrition in the region. NPM is a decision-making process of identifying potential nutrition problems and needs of a specific population group, analyzing possible ways of preventing and controlling malnutrition, allocating resources based on needs and expectations; and taking deliberate action to address nutritional problems, including those related to monitoring and evaluation.
